Gyrotonic exercise is a holistic, natural movement method that utilizes specialized equipment designed to guide, assist and challenge the exerciser through harmonious arching and spiralling motions. It stimulates the nervous system, opens up energy pathways, increases flexibility and improves strength.
The fluid movements of Gyrotonic exercise allow the joints to move through a natural range of motion without jarring or compression. By addressing the entire person, physically, mentally and spiritually, stimulates curiosity and a deeper understanding of how natural movement builds wisdom of one's own unique attributes. In doing so, Gyrotonic exercise creates a conscious connection of mind, body and soul.
In her home studio, Lisa utilizes the Gyrotonic Pulley Tower, which is the result of over thirty years of research and development and is the most widely used piece of Gyrotonic equipment.
Lisa will guide you as you experience the pulley tower, which provides smooth, even support and resistance via a unique, weighted pulley system.
The adjustable bench and rotating handle unit can be customized to fit each individual client’s needs and capacity of movement during each session. The design of the pulley tower expansion system supports the full, and natural range of motion of the joints, allowing for three-dimensional, functional, movement, and eliminating the sharp starts and stops where the most injury occurs.
Inspiring Gyrotonic exercise and its specialized equipment, Gyrokinesis originated as “yoga for dancers,” utilizing a simple chair and yoga mat. Gyrokinesis can be adapted for people from all walks of life, including dancers, accomplished athletes, fitness enthusiasts, senior citizens and people recovering from an injury or dealing with a disability.
Similar to Gyrotonic exercise, it stimulates the nervous system, increases the range of motion and creates functional strength by coordinating movement, breath and mental focus.
Unlike Gyrotonic exercise, there is no equipment to produce feedback, and instead, its guided rhythmic, flowing sequences encourage the participant to explore movement using their own body resistance and proprioception.
In a Gyrokinesis class, Lisa guides her students focusing on the breath to stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system and arching, curling and spiraling movement to open up energy pathways. The body, mind, and spirit connection opens the pathways to clarity, awareness, calmness, and confidence.
